Good Afternoon!
I am the mother of a 4-year old... which means it is time for us to start thinking about which route we want to take for her education. Since she was born, I dreaded the 'first day of Kindergarten'!! :)
I've always felt the desire to Home School. However, my ideas for Home Schooling seemed a little unorthodox. A friend of mine told me that my philosophies were similar to a type of HS called UnSchooling. For those of us who are hearing this term for the first time it basically means Learning in a Natural Environment on a Natural Timeline.
My daughter is very inquisitive, and I learned early on that when I let her curiousity guide what we explored, she really paid attention and learned quickly while still having fun. I didn't see any reason why I couldn't use this for all of our learning experiences. Since the realm of Home Schooling/UnSchooling is still fairly new to me, I thought I would see if there were any other parents out there interested or planning to UnSchool.
I look forward to meeting you!! Carrisa

Hi!
I am the mother of two girls ages 8 and 5. We started homeschooling last year and really enjoy it. There is a wide variety of groups in the area using all kinds of methods from unschooling to classical schooling. We opt for an eclectic method; some things are driven by my children's interests and some things we do more traditionally. In the early years I believe unschooling can be the best method, but can be harder than you may think as they get older and need to learn certain things they may have no interest in or have difficulty with. There is a homeschool store in stallings called "Growing Scholars". they offer informational meetings to parents who are interested in homeschooling. they gave me a wealth of information when we began that was indispensable, such as NC laws, testing, resources, and info on the various homeschool methods. good luck!
