August 18, 2009 an official Charter Party was held to install officers and members into the Matthews Civitan Club. The mission of Civitan worldwide is to build good citizenship by providing a volunteer organization of clubs dedicated to serving individual and community needs with an emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities. Matthews chartered our club with 30 members strong. We are excited to start making a difference. We welcome anyone who may be interested in Service, Knowledge, Leadership and Fellowship.

Comment by Darryl Parker on August 10, 2009 at 7:00pm: I enjoy working with NPOs. I currently volunteer with the Matthews Alive Festival, the Matthews Civitans, and the Matthews Chamber. I also enjoy giving as often as possible to the Matthews Help Center. I believe there is strength in a strong community and our local NPOs are fundamental to our strong community!

Our mission is to save, protect, and rehabilitate equines in need. We rescue abused, neglected, or abandoned equines; provide them with care and rehabilitation; and finally find them a compatible, loving home. We believe that education is the long-term solution to improving the lives of equines.

The Art Box Kids is my Not-For-Profit... and my passion. The Art Box Program delivers shoe boxes filled with arts-and-crafts supplies to kids in hospitals, homeless shelters and abuse centers.

Individual and corporate donations of both dollars and art supplies are always welcome.

I must publicly thank Harris Teeter... The Matthews Womens Club... Sam's Club... and all the individuals who have allowed us to deliver almost 1,000 Art Boxes per year for the past four years!!!

The Art Box Kids run at almost 95% efficiency. Overhead is virtually non-existant!
