I was researching one story and the trail has taken me to CMPD Animal Care and Control. I am taking a tour of the facility on Monday (risky business for an animal lover like me), but I am so impressed with the care and concern these people have for the animals. They have a foster care program for animals that are not adopted right away, or for ones that need a little age before they can be adopted. Every animal they give out for adoption is microchipped, spayed or neutered and given shots - all for a nominal fee. There are over 200 volunteers in the facility now. They even have an area where they let the dogs run off leash---very different from just a few years ago. It's a great place to find a pet, so check it out!
Hi all,
On Saturday, May 3rd, there will be a Pet Adoption Day on the Green in front of the Town Hall/Library.
In partnership with local animal welfare organizations, our Pet Adoption Day will host adoptable dogs, merchandise and a micro-chip clinic. Matthews Animal Control, Matthews Police, Charlotte Animal Control, Crossroads Animal Rescue, Humane Society of Union County, Carolina P.A.W.S. (Pet Adoption and Welfare Society) and others will be at hand. This is the first event of it's kind for the library. I hope it will be an annual occurence!
