Are We Rome?: The Fall of an Empire and the Fate of America by Cullen Murphy
I found it most intriguing that Murphy highlights Rome did not fall in some epochal collapse, but was literally stretched apart through that time's own version of globalization and the responsibilities of the geopolitical leader. We do have something the Romans did not. Within our grasp are the tools of interconnectedness that heretofore did not exist. We have the opportunity to assess progress and failure more rapidly than ever before and the populace carries a level of knowledge, if engaged, that is unprecedented. The strength of the individual en masse within any system has never been more apparent. In that regard, we have been ripping at the insular layers of our governance and are flushing out the corruption and misguidance. The question is whether or not it is soon enough... |

Ok - here are a few photos of my garden thus far this year. I've kept it to cold hardy plants for now. I'll be planting more after April 15th - mostly tomatoes, squashes and beans.

How does everything look? What would you like to know about us & our business?
Ana
What a terrific garden! Beautiful. My husband & I have a mini one in our yard, which we lovingly take of, mostly tomatoes (and boy, with all those rotten ones hurting people nowadays, it sure is nice to know we are growing out own), plus lots of peppers of all kinds, cukes, and herbs. Oh, we are growing some fennel this year, too. Being of Italian background, I ate lots of it growing up. ..very tasty just raw with a little salt and pepper and dipped in some olive oil. ;! Yum!
Nice to meet you.. Laura and I work the Reference Desk here at the library - come by and say howdy sometime.
Let me know what you think,
Thanks

How hard (expensive?) would it be to create a dating-service-like website to match up Matthews residents for car pooling purposes? Jay and I were talking this weekend about how to find someone in Matthews who worked in the Ballantyne area M-F, 8-5ish. I've never used a dating service (no, really!) but don't you put in a profile and then get matched up with someone with similar interests? Could iMatthews accommodate something like that?
Carol mentioned you were interested in learning Bridge. As I think she said, if you ever want to play spades, let us know.
Have a good week.
Jay
Thank you!
